When I started my new job, I was assigned a mentor who works on a similar but unrelated team. We’ve been meeting for a few months now and I feel awful saying this, but I think they’re a terrible person. I don’t think they’re good at their job. I have no idea why they signed up to mentor me. I dread every time I have to meet with him. How do I get out of this?
Mentorships can be really powerful when they’re great. If they’re not, then you need to go find one that is. Not everyone is going to be the right mentor for everyone. This sounds like a seriously bad match, and there’s no need to keep wasting both of your time.
